| The Soviets imposed permanent restricted areas denying legal access of one-third or more of East Germany to the USMLM (and other Allied Missions). In addition to PRAs, the Soviets increased reliance on imposing Temporary Restricted Areas (TRAs) to deny freedom of travel to Allied Missions. TRAs lasted for short periods, often supplementing or interconnecting with PRAs. TRAs usually covered maneuver areas, exercise areas, deceptive activities, and even implemented for political motives. |
The ensuing are a sampling of PRAs from 1964-1974. Additional PRA maps will be added in the future.
