These are the general rules for the USMLM Internet mailing lists.

The USMLM mailing lists were created for use by subscribed members
interested in preserving the history of the United States Military
Liaison Mission (USMLM). We would hope that this list will be used to
discuss events, history, and anything of interest to the membership at
large (including families) in relation to the USMLM, related Allied Missions,
BRIXMIS, FMLM, SOXMIS, SERB, etc. and interelated events concerning
the Cold War, the GDR (DDR), and GSFG/WGF.SOME "SUGGESTIONS" FOR POSTING TO THE USMLM LISTS INCLUDE:
- An "Introduction" message, including your name and dates at USMLM
(or comparable Allied services) and possibly some notable notes about the times
or events surrounding your service.
- Referrals to news articles of relevance to the USMLM and its members
- Looking for someone
- Notices of member well being
- Looking for or announcing pictures and memorabilia
- Politico-military discussions about liaison activities
- Recommending a web site
- Status of former USMLM facilities
- anything else you would like included about yourself for other
members to know
- Updates to the USMLM web pages
- Announcing reunions and anniversaries
- Association elections
- Protocols
- Any other major events or issuesITEMS NOT SUITABLE FOR POSTING TO USMLM LISTS:
- E-mail attachments: No large photos, programs, or large documents.
(These can be placed on our web site for members to view and download.
Send an e-mail describing your items to .)
- No solicitations for business or sales, unless it is directly
relevant to the USMLM, such as memorabilia, etc. If in doubt, ask the
list members for permission first.
- No jokes of the day. (Humor is ok, but not as the prime subject of
the posting.)
- No virus warnings, unless it relates to something received or sent
earlier through the List.
...Please use your good judgment.COMPOSITION OF MEMBERSHIP IN LIST:
Entry to the USMLM lists is controlled. Currently only former members
of the USMLM and family, and Allies, are allowed to subscribe to this list. A copy
of the list members can be sent to members upon request under certain circumstances. Send request
to along with justification.SUBJECT LINE OF MESSAGES:
All messages sent through the lists will have [USMLM], [USMLM-Exec], or [AIR-TEAM]
added to the subject lines automatically. In addition to making it
easier to identify e-mails, it is also useful for those using mail
filters. (Need more info on mail filters? Send an e-mail to
along with the name of the mail program you use.)SECURITY:
Even though the USMLM lists are private forums, it should never be
considered a secure means of discussing personal or sensitive
information that would not otherwise be discussed in public forums. If
a member posts something you feel is inappropriate, contact the member
directly and/or .QUOTING:
When quoting text from previous messages, please delete the portions
which do not pertain to your reply. This helps cut down on e-mail size.
If you intend to forward or quote a message originally posted on the USMLM lists
to someone outside of the list, please get permission from the original message author.REPLY-TO:
Whenever appropriate, reply only to the member not the entire list unless it is of benefit to all.
Do share your stories with all members. Do edit replies to the list to cut down on size whenever
appropriate.COPYRIGHTS:
Members must ensure they comply with relevant copyright laws when
quoting or posting copyrighted material. Most US journalistic
materials, and some foreign media, can be quoted under the Copyright
Law [good faith use for educational purposes] as we are a non-profit,
historical association. In such cases, publication credits, author,
